The Chakras 1-8 & Egyptian Essential Oils:
Gamal’s Aromatherapy
Giza Egypt

1st Chakra: Root or Base Sacred Oil: Red Amber
The Root Chakra is our foundation for living and survival and connects us to the earth energies, the physical world and empowers our being. As the centre of physical energy and vitality, it provides us the stamina to manifest our desires and is essential in getting us focused on tasks. It also keeps us grounded giving us a sense of connection in what we do. Every other chakra is downstream of this one and only receives the energy the root chakra can pass through it. Issues of survival, stability, security and safety as well as primal erotic and pro-creational urges are addressed here.
Red Amber is the sacred essence that facilitates communication between the material, emotional and mental levels. It opens us up to accept what happens, to be able to ‘let go,’ to love ourselves, to enjoy freedom and to be in Divine love. It allows us to accept life, our bodies, our manifestations and helps us face deeper reasons for our pain and find a way out.
We need great confidence, a lot of power and unconditional love to go through life. Through our journeys, we can earn sympathy, appreciation, love and help from each other. Red Amber gives us the vision, knowledge and wisdom to help ourselves and help others.
2nd Chakra: Sacral Sacred Oil: Musk
This wonderful energy is all about our sense of self-identity. Developed at a young age, self-identity is often acquired by what others say about us; this can include negative messages. When we take ownership of these messages and make them our truth, it can give us a false sense of self worth. Exploring our true authentic self is done here.
The Sacral Chakra is also the most feminine of the charkas and is profoundly connected with fertility and ruled by the moon. Its primary functions are to do with acts of creation, whether of children or creative ideas. Our human need for relationships with others and our need to control the dynamics of our physical environments is also address here.
Musk oil helps us pass through fear to acceptance, understanding and the clearing of false self worth images. For women in particular, it is the oil of protection and to help one understand what is going on in the body. It relieves nervousness during cycles and gives security. And during pregnancy, it can provide a calming effect between mother and child.
For men and women, musk oil is especially helpful at allowing things ‘go’ between generations and relational issues. From casual to intimate relationships, every one of them is an opportunity to become more conscious. Every union and encounter has spiritual value.
In ancient times, musk oil came from gazelles but for more than 2,000 years now, it has been made synthetically or from plants.
3rd Chakra: Solar Plexus Sacred Oil: Jasmin
The Solar Plexus is home to the ‘I AM!’ It’s where we connect with our soul, find our self-confidence and trust in ourselves. There are times in life when we need to make important decisions and relying on our innate knowledge would be most beneficial. Tapping into this centre and listening to our ‘gut feelings’ is essential in helping us along life’s journey. By denying this innate wisdom you are denying your truth.
Jasmin oil (derived from the Persian word Yasmin), does a lot more than just smell nice; it’s a most important oil for grounding. It helps us find our self-confidence. If we want to reach higher states of awareness, we need to feel strong, balanced, safe and secure with our intuition. This oil is also about harmonizing. With the powers of yin and yang, yasmin connects us with our higher charkas (throat, third-eye and crown). And as a good balancer between sexuality and spirituality, it allows us to experience a health balance of both. It’s also good for removing sadness and soothing upset feelings in the stomach.
4th Chakra: Heart Sacred Oil: Rose
Our ‘centre of love’ is the Heart Chakra. It’s where you give and receive love and communicate on emotional levels. Recognizing the need for a deep sense of self-love and the importance of focusing on your own needs is essential for healthy living and journeying. Often we ignore our needs by making other people’s needs a priority. Showing ourselves acts of kindness is valuable to our health.
It’s very important for us to have an open heart yet still be in our own centre of control. When we are balanced, we are secure and safe. When we are not balanced, we are either punishing ourselves or we are punished by other people.
Rose oil is called the ‘Master Oil’ because it’s used to clear up the heart. It allows us to open on an emotional level, not a mental level, giving us opportunities to forgive, forget and start again. It also protects us and gives us security. Rose oil encourages us to be free to do what we really want to do and allows us to understand what is going on around us.
Even though this precious oil is expensive, rose essence goes a long way and smells divine! Fresh flowers are picked before 8 a.m. and it takes 30 roses to make a single drop of oil. The first known rose distilleries existed in 1612 in Shiraz, part of Persia.
5th Chakra: Throat Sacred Oil: Amber-Kashmir
The Throat Chakra is all about releasing our will to Divine guidance. This is where we express our thoughts and feelings through communication. Our every choice, thought or feeling has impact to ourselves, others, the environment and our world. It’s important to not only be honest with others but to be honest with ourselves. In ancient Egypt, words were very important. The ancients believed that words were sound vibrations and to speak was a procedure that impacted sonar fields and fused with universal wave patterns. Only actions, thoughts, feelings and choices that come from Divine guidance offer the greatest of riches.
Amber-Kashmir has a secret; it’s the best oil for communicating and self expression! This essence helps people believe in themselves and when they are confident, they speak frankly and honestly. Good conversation, without fear and done in truth, is a very healthy thing.
Today, Amber-Kashmir comes from Libya and from Cashmere. About 30,000 years ago, it grew in Libya and at this time, Libya was part of Egypt.
6th Chakra: Brow Sacred Oil: Sandalwood
Also known as the Third Eye, the Brow Chakra is a very sensible instrument; it rules our inner sight. And intuition is our most untapped resource! It is the place where information and emotion can be held in our subconscious on a very deep level. If your Brow chakra is closed you can become stuck in thoughts and ideas can be non-productive on making important decisions effecting relationships, health or career. However, if your third-eye is completely open, you could read the Akasha-chronic, which covers ‘all that has ever been.’
Many people say they have difficulty connecting with or recognizing intuition. When intuition happens, it is real! If there is heaviness, it is not pure intuition. Caroline Myss advises, ‘continually search for the difference between truth and illusion, the two are present at every moment. Trust what you cannot see far more than what you can see.’
Sandalwood oil is very good for meditations to open this chakra and obtain clear sight, however this needs to be done carefully and harmoniously for if it opens too fast, one may see more than one can bare. This essence is also used to help in stressful situations where it can balance irritation on a mental level allowing one to concentrate and make clear decisions. It can harmonize emotions such as fear, sadness, melancholy and it stimulates the immune system healing arthritis and rheumatism.
7th Chakra: Crown Sacred Oil: Lotus
The Crown Chakra is important in our connection with our higher consciousness. It’s our gateway through time and boarders allowing us to be guided by higher-level consciousness or to commune with one who lives far away. This connection is significant to the human spirit in not feeling alone in the world. By communicating with our higher selves and/or guides, we can receive support in times of need or ‘food’ for our overall well-being. It also allows us to access past lives and to retrieve answers that we sometimes need for things that are not clear and balanced in this lifetime. Having this chakra unbalanced or closed can leave an individual with a deep sense of disconnect and uneasiness.
Lotus oil has always been used as the scent to clear the Crown chakra, taking people away from the materialistic world to live on a higher spiritual level and to be able to communicate there. In ancient Egypt, lotus oil was used to lead kings and priests to a high spiritual level to receive universal energy in order to create their world.
Especially useful in meditation, the power of lotus allows the physical body to access different levels, to see clearly and influence all other charkas in a positive way.
Today, a variety of lotus flowers are cultivated in Japan, South Korea, China, Australia and Egypt, however, only Egyptian lotus carries a scent. True lotus oil is very difficult to come by because the actual yield of essence from the flower is small. The Divine status that the sacred lotus flower holds in world religions and mythologies is significant; using this oil needs to be respected as such.
Eighth Chakra: Soul Star Higher Self: Oil: Papyrus
Oil: Papyrus
The Soul Star, Higher Self or other names, the 8th chakra was familiar to the kings and priests in Ancient Egypt as with other higher levels of consciousness. They had knowledge about other spiritual realms and were able to remember they were part of the Divine unity. As a new spiritual awakening is happening for more and more people today, they are now starting to experience the gifts of the 8th chakra just as the ancients did in their time.
There are two main qualities of this chakra: it’s the centre of Divine Love, spiritual compassion and spiritual selflessness. It’s also the chakra that holds karmic residue, the energy patterns that have stayed with you from one life to the next.
Accessing your Higher Self puts you in touch with universal ideas, concepts and abilities. It opens us and leads us to remember we are part of All and we can communicate between human and universe, between masculine and feminine and to enjoy being part of the Whole, the One, the I Am that I Am. As above, so below. This centre enables a person to achieve out of body projections, spiritual perceptions and access wisdom of the ages.
Healing karma will be important at this level because that can clear past life trauma or patterns. This can be difficult and not without duress. However, as soon as these patterns are cleared, there can be an acceleration in further spiritual awakening.
Papyrus oil shows the way to be ‘above as below.’ It allows your imagination to soar and not be restricted to the physical level. This very special oil also allows us the opportunity to face our various lives so that we can remember our knowledge and our potential to use it here and now.
This oil carries a very strong mystical aura and should only be used while meditating, praying, or doing psychic work and healing.
